Why does my building society check my identity so carefully when I open an account?
Print page  |   Email

One of the main reasons is to carry out its legal obligations to help the Government to combat financial crime. Effective identification of customers using building society accounts and other financial services makes it harder for terrorists and other criminals to hide and move "dirty" cash.
