Which building societies have recently announced mergers?

There were two mergers on the 31st December 2008. Catholic Building Society merged with Chelsea Building Society and Barnsley Building Society merged with Yorkshire Building Society. The Cheshire and Nationwide building societies merged on 15 December 2008. The Derbyshire and Nationwide building societies merged on the 1 December 2008.
On the 30th March 2009 Scarborough Building Society merged with Skipton Building Society. On the same day Dunfermline Building Society’s retail and wholesale deposits, branches, head office and originated residential mortgages (other than social housing loans and related deposits) were transferred to Nationwide Building Society.
On the 29 April 2009 members of the Britannia voted to merge with Co-operative Financial Services. The merger is expected to take place on 1 August 2009, subject to confirmation by the FSA.
