Building societies dominate Mortgage Finance Gazette Awards

This year’s Mortgage Finance Gazette Awards saw building societies sweep the board.  The awards, which recognise achievements rather than products or best lender, saw societies taking nine of the eleven top awards on the night and many of the runner-up spots as well.  Well done to everyone involved!

Society Winners

Championing People
Winner: Cumberland Building Society for its training and development programme and introducing internal communication initiatives.
Runner-up: Newbury Building Society for its management learning programme.

Arts Award (Large Lenders)
Winner: Skipton Building Society for sponsorship of the Grassington Festival.

Arts Award (Small to Medium-Sized Lenders)
Winner: Darlington Building Society for sponsorship of Middlesbrough Theatre.
Runner-up: Dunfermline Building Society for its Art in Hospital programme.

Community Services (Large Lenders)
Runner-up: Nationwide Building Society for community activities and supporting hundreds of initiatives across the country.
Runner-up: Yorkshire Building Society for its Free Budget Planner and Financial Healthcheck Tool.

Community Services (Small to Medium-Sized Lenders)
Winner: Darlington Building Society for support of four local hospices.
Runner-up: Loughborough Building Society for its work with homeless charity The Bridge and Loughborough Library.
Runner-up: Mansfield Building Society for its community support scheme.

Innovator Award (Large Lenders)
Winner: Yorkshire Building Society for paperless internet mortgage applications.
Runner-up: Yorkshire Building Society for its online conveyancing service.

Innovator Award (Small to Medium-Sized Lenders)
Winner: Norwich & Peterborough Building Society for being the first financial services organisation to be granted a Basel II waiver.
Runner-up: Kent Reliance Building Society for its intergenerational mortgage. 

Ambassador Award
Matthew Bullock, chief executive of Norwich & Peterborough Building Society.

Leadership Award
Ian Ward, chief executive of Leeds Building Society.

Lifetime Achievement Award
Philip Williamson, former chief executive of Nationwide Building Society.
