Fact sheet

The Lending Code

The Lending Code is a voluntary code which sets standards of good practice in relation to:

  • loans;
  • credit cards;
  • charge cards; and
  • current account overdrafts.

It does not apply to merchant services, non-business borrowing secured on land, or to sales finance.

The Lending Code is monitored and enforced by the Lending Standards Board (LSB). The Lending Code is sponsored by the Building Societies Association, British Bankers' Association and UKcards Association.

The latest edition of the Lending Code (March 2011, revised October 2014) is available on the LSB website

Lending Code

The Code is currently under review to ensure it remains up-to-date. It is expected that a revised code will be published in Autumn 2015.
