The Future Homes Standard: changes to Part L and Part F of the Building Regulations for new dwellings

The BSA has responded to the Ministry of Housing's consultation on the Future Homes Standard. The consultation proposes increasing energy efficiency requirements for new buildings in 2020, with a view to implementing the full Standard from 2025.

Our response calls on Government to go further and faster than the current proposals, noting that housebuilders should have previously been through the necessary research and development cycle in preparation for the Zero Carbon Homes policy.

We argue that new homes should be built to the highest levels of fabric efficiency, in order to avoid building homes today that will need to be retrofitted in future. We oppose the proposal to remove powers from local planning authorities to set more ambitious targets.
