Treasury Publish Consultation Document on Unclaimed Asset Scheme

On the 20 March, HM Treasury launched a consultation “in order to allow money in dormant bank and building society accounts to be reinvested in society, without taking away consumers' rights to reclaim their money”.

The BSA has been in discussion with the Treasury on this issue since the 2005 Pre-Budget Report.  The consultation is a result of these discussions.  A further consultation, expected later in the Spring, will set out the most effective means of distributing the money.
