There has been much inflated comment about the amount of money held in lost accounts and what, potentially, this money could be used for. In contrast, this consultation by The Commission on Unclaimed Assets is a sensible addition to the debate. The BSA will be carefully studying its contents and will be responding to the consultation.

In the Pre Budget Report today, the Chancellor announced further details on plans to give dormant account monies to good causes. These proposals were first mooted in the 2004 Budget and since then the industry has held constructive discussions with the Treasury on a number of complex issues.
