Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) has gained momentum as an issue and is attracting increased interest from politicians, pressure groups, consumers and the media. At the heart of the debate is whether an institution is a good corporate citizen and how this is demonstrated.
As CSR has steadily risen up the political and boardroom agenda, the Building Societies Association has worked with societies interested in these issues to ensure best practice and practical experience is shared.

The 2006 BSA CSR Survey
The SMART Company undertook a survey in 2006 following up from the orginal 2002 survey (see below) to measure CSR activity within the sector. This showed that CSR activity in building societies had increased but also identified areas for future work.

The 2002 BSA CSR Survey
In 2002, the Building Societies Association commissioned The SMART Company to undertake a survey of member societies, to measure CSR activity within the sector. This formed a baseline for future activity. For the full report see the link below.
