Physical Security
Like other financial organisations, building societies are sometimes the target of criminal incidents ranging from branch robberies, to staff abuse, to attacks on security guards as they transport cash to and from branches (commonly known as cash-in-transit attacks). The BSA helps prevent these crimes by collating and disseminating information to members which includes details of robbery trends and geographical hotspots. The BSA runs a group that draws together knowledge from financial institutions, trade associations and the Police to discuss effective preventative measures and strategies to employ when building societies are attacked. In addition, the BSA makes a valued contribution to a number of other working groups aimed at preventing crime against financial institutions. Work carried out by the BSA not only identifies current risks and trends, but also informs societies of policies and processes to help improve physical security.
