The Building Societies Association has launched a new report examining for the first time the public’s views on residential property purchase. The report, “House Price Expectations,’ is based on research by Ipsos MORI and gives an in-depth insight into the trends behind the property market from the public’s perspective.

The report's main findings are -

  • Speculation is not the primary reason for property purchase
  • A fall in house prices will not result in panic selling
  • Investors are in for the long term
  • Further house price rises are expected
