Stepping up to the Mark - Building Societies Responding to the Housing Affordability Crisis

This major new research paper by BSA investigates what building societies are doing to help people, and especially first time buyers, buy a home.

The report finds that societies, with their historic interest in helping people buy a home, have responded enthusiastically to the problems that people are now encountering affording a home by developing a wide range of innovative mortgage products specifically designed to help.

However, the report finds that more can be done to allow more people to buy, including

  •  greater lender input into Government schemes
  •  reform of the section 106 planning system
  •  greater help for buyers saving for a deposit
  •  greater levels of housebuilding
