Mortgage Market Review – the long awaited package of proposed reforms is published

On 19 December 2011, the FSA published the full package of proposed reforms under the Mortgage Market Review (MMR).  This includes all proposed rules changes, the draft rules and a detailed cost benefit analysis.

The proposals contained in the consultation paper have moved significantly and the FSA appears to have listened to feedback provided by the BSA and its members.

Mortgage market outlook for 2012

2011 has been a relatively quiet year for the housing market. House prices have remained broadly flat, although with regional variations. The outlook for the UK economy has deteriorated since the summer, and the fundamentals underpinning the housing market are now weaker.  Surprisingly the results from the BSA’s December Property Tracker, show that despite gloomy economic forecasts many people (44% of respondents) still consider it a good time to buy a property.

BSA Buy to Let Seminar
29 March 2012, London

With the growth in the private rented sector over the last six years and the fact that it continues to represent the only growing housing tenure in the UK, this seminar looks at the vital role that private investment plays through the provision of buy to let mortgages.  It will also examine how lenders use varying techniques for managing and assessing risk.  Plus we ask what impact regulation might have if the EU Directive on mortgage credit captures buy to let mortgages within its scope.

Content:

• What is the future for the funding of the private rented sector?
• Potential buy to let regulation, what does this mean for growth and future lending?
• What opportunities for mutual lenders does the buy to let market offer?

The event will be important for lenders already offering buy to let mortgages as well as those considering entering the market in the future.

Note: Spaces are limited, please book early to avoid disappointment.
