‘Building societies remain resilient despite challenging market’ - KPMG

The outlook for the UK’s building societies is good with societies remaining highly competitive says KPMG in its annual Building Societies Database publication.  KPMG also concludes that societies have weathered the financial crisis well, with the vast majority remaining profitable.

Societies raise £340,000 for charity through member AGM votes

Building societies and mutuals actively encourage members to have their say by voting at their society’s Annual General Meeting.  This article looks at the sector’s AGM turnout for 2011.

Mortgage verification scheme launched to tackle fraud

The mortgage industry and HM Revenue & Customs will launch a new scheme this week to combat mortgage application fraud.  The scheme will allow lenders to check applicants’ income details against tax records where they suspect a fraudulent application.
