In this policy visitors are referred to as "you" and "your".
Yorkshire Building Society (trading as "Barnsley Building Society" and the "Barnsley") is referred to as "we" or "us" or "our".
The "Site" means the Barnsley website.

The following statement explains our policy regarding the personal information we collect about you.

From time to time, you may be asked to submit personal information about yourself (e.g. name and email address, etc.) in order to use or to receive information about our services. When you supply personal information to us we have legal obligations towards you in the way we deal with it. We must collect the information fairly; we must let you know how we will use it; and we must tell you in advance if we decide to pass the information on to anyone else.

If false or inaccurate information is provided and fraud or money laundering is identified, details will be passed on to fraud prevention agencies and/or Law enforcement agencies. Law enforcement agencies may access and use this information. We and other organisations may also access and use this information to prevent fraud and money laundering, for example when:-

• Checking details on applications for credit, credit related or other facilities.
• Managing credit and credit related account or facilities
• Recovering debt
• Checking details on proposals and claims for all types of insurance
• Checking details of job applicants and employees

We and other organisations may access and use from other countries the information recorded by fraud prevention agencies.

We will ensure that all personal information supplied is held securely, in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998. You have the right to request a copy of the personal information we have about you and to have any inaccuracies corrected. (Such requests are subject to a £5 administration fee and should be forwarded to dpofficer@barnsley-bs.co.uk.)

The information you provide, and any other information that we may hold on you, which may include sensitive data, may be used for our own use in respect of administration, marketing, statistical analysis, fraud prevention or similar purposes. It may also be used by us to promote products for other companies with whom we have arrangements in place. We will not supply your information to third parties without first obtaining your consent unless we are obliged by law.

This Site does not presently make use of cookies.

We may occasionally need to transfer personal information to countries outside the European Economic Area (EEA) which may not have adequate Data Protection laws in place. This will only be done under a contract which includes appropriate safeguards for the security and confidentiality of your personal information, with your consent or where permitted by the Data Protection Act.
