Ethical Investments
Many of our investment products also include an ethical option to help give you more control over where your money is invested.
For example, if you have received your child's £250 Child Trust Fund voucher, then you can choose to invest it in our Ethical Child Trust Fund.
Our Ethical Child Trust Fund invests in a unit trust called the Family Charities Ethical Trust. The Family Charities Ethical Trust aims to achieve long term capital growth whilst avoiding investments in companies which generate significant turnover from, among other things:
- Alcohol or tobacco
- Testing cosmetics or toiletries on animals
- Using intensive farming methods
You can invest in this Trust directly for yourself if you wish, or via a tax-efficient ISA. It is also possible to invest directly in the Trust on behalf of a child through our Children's Unit Trust.
Another ethical option is the Ethical Bond, which is a long-term tax-exempt regular savings endowment plan (minimum term 10 years) that will allow you to take advantage of the special tax privileges available to friendly societies (although tax legislation is subject to change). The Ethical Bond is invested into the Family Charities Ethical Exempt Fund, which in turn invests in the Family Charities Ethical Trust. You can invest in an Ethical Bond for yourself (Ethical Family Bond) or a child (Ethical Junior Bond).
