With assets in excess of £1bn, the Society continues to make significant progress ensuring that its strong heritage remains as relevant today as its always been as a modern, forward-thinking mutual.
The Society is looking to appoint a new Finance Director (FD) to help to continue to build upon the Society’s heritage and to play a lead role in all aspects of the running of the Society, contributing to the strategy, growth and future success of the business within a very challenging and important sector. This is a high-profile role within the organisation - one of four key Board Executive Directors - with significant direct/indirect influence across the wider business.
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the postholder’s remit is to deliver responsive, business-orientated financial analysis to the Board and CEO, providing accurate, timely and transparent financial information and interpretation of that information to support effective business decision-making, and to meet statutory requirements. In addition, the FD will be responsible for all of the Society’s prudential regulatory reporting and will sit on the Risk, Audit and Sales & Marketing Executive Committees as well as Chairing the Assets and Liabilities Committee.
Commercially oriented and a strategic thinker, the Board is seeking to appoint a qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA) with developed leadership skills and a breadth of functional leadership, strategic and commercial insight beyond purely the finance function is desirable. The FD will ideally bring a background in regulated financial services with previous treasury experience however for candidates who demonstrate a progressive career outside of the sector, a strong intellect and learning agility will also be considered as critical. Candidates must be able to demonstrate a collaborative working style and a track record of building effective and influential relationships with internal and external stakeholders. The successful candidate must believe passionately in the values of mutuality. Cultural fit and alignment with the values of Newbury Building Society is a pre-requisite to ensure success in this key role.
The appointment will be subject to PRA/FCA approval and will require an individual to undergo a Significant Influence Functions (SIF) interview.
