The Role

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Society Secretary to join our management team.  Although our Society is relatively small (c. 45 employees) we are award-winning and progressive with ambitious plans for future growth.  This is a busy and varied role which is central to the Society’s operations.   It is an excellent opportunity for a proactive, strategic yet hands-on individual who shares the Society’s commitment to its motto of “doing the right thing”.

Key areas of responsibility include:-

• The arrangement and conduct of all Board, Committee, Annual General and Special Meetings including logistics, agendas, Board Pack preparation and distribution and minute taking

• Preparation of the Society’s Annual Report and Business Review and the maintenance of the Memorandum and Rules of the Society

• Regular review, updates and control of Board Manual

• Liaison with the regulators regarding changes to Society governance arrangements

• Liaison with the External & Internal Auditors as required

• Managing the Society’s main insurance policies and managing claims as they arise

• Ensuring the Society is licenced for activity governed by the Consumer Credit Act

• Management and oversight of the Society’s outsourcing arrangements

• Liaison with the Risk and Compliance team to maintain the Risk Register and develop effective monitoring systems

• Maintaining updated knowledge of regulatory changes and implementing changes as applicable

• Ensuring high levels of corporate governance are implemented and maintained within the Society

• Represent the Society at events as required


Skills, Qualification, Knowledge and Experience Required:

• Company Secretarial experience / Chartered Secretarial qualification

• Corporate Governance knowledge and experience

• General financial services industry knowledge and experience would be advantageous

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

• A can-do attitude and active team player prepared to go “the extra mile”

• A demonstrable commitment to the Society’s motto of “doing the right thing”
