Supporting customers in vulnerable circumstances

6 October 2017, London

There is now a strong focus on supporting customers in vulnerable circumstances and creditors have invested significantly in support for customers with mental health problems.

However, vulnerability is more than mental health.  Attention has turned to the full range of other vulnerable situations that staff encounter daily such as serious illnesses, mental capacity limitations and addictions. Many firms reviewed their current practices and procedures in light of the ‘21 steps’ guide, but need to utilise training to practically respond to everyday challenges when dealing with customers in vulnerable circumstances.

In response to this need, the Money Advice Trust has developed a one-day interactive training workshop to improve you and your colleagues’ knowledge, skills, and confidence of working with customers who may be in vulnerable circumstances. This training has been developed by the Money Advice Trust's Chris Fitch and Colin Trend who created industry-wide models, including TEXAS and IDEA, to identify and support people in vulnerable circumstances.

This workshop is suitable for:

  • Defining and overseeing the firms vulnerability policy
  • Identifying vulnerability and dealing with issues appropriately
  • Embedding good practice within the business areas
  • Dealing with specific business activities relevant to vulnerability
  • Ensuring the firm’s policy and approach is delivering fair customer outcomes
