This month, Paul Broadhead, Head of Mortgage and Housing Policy at the BSA joined representatives from the Cambridge Building Society and Oxford Brookes University for a filmed discussion panel on mortgage innovation and modular construction hosted by the Future Cities Forum.
One area under discussion was the terminology used around modern methods of construction. Paul raised the perception challenges that terminology can generate, words such as pre-fabrication, but noted that if a phrase like precision-engineered is used, there is a much better response.
Mortgage providers and professional surveyors along with home-buyers sometimes display distrust over modular innovation and offsite construction, so it is important to get the language right if this vital area is to move forward.
