UK's Best Companies to Work For: Success for societies

The UK’s Best Companies to Work For lists have been published and there has been success for a number of building societies.  The lists are based on employee surveys, recognising commitment to employees and demonstrating the importance placed on workplace engagement as a vital part of an organisation’s success.

Darlington, Hanley Economic and Mansfield Building Societies are included in the UK’s 100 best Mid-Sized Companies to Work For; and Skipton and Coventry Building Societies both appear in the UK’s top 25 Best Big Companies to Work For.

In addition, within the Regional lists, Dudley and Cumberland Building Societies are included and 7 societies appear in the top 30 Best Financial Services Companies to Work For.

Huge congratulations to all!

Coventry Building Society

Lucy Becque, Chief People Officer at Coventry Building Society, said: “It’s fantastic to be recognised as one of the very best companies in the country to work for.  As these awards are based on a survey of all employees, there’s no better measure of how it is to work for Coventry Building Society.

“We know that when our people enjoy what they do, they consistently deliver great results and it’s no coincidence that our customer service is second to none.”

Darlington Building Society

"In these challenging times we are absolutely delighted to announce our incredible achievement of being in the ‘30 Best Companies to Work For in the North East’, the ’30 best Financial Sector Companies to Work For’ and for being one of the ‘Top 100 Best Mid-Sized Companies to Work For in the UK"

Hanley Economic

Mark Selby, Chief Executive of Hanley Building Society, said "Nurturing and sustaining a great place to work is hugely important to us all and we are thrilled to have again been listed in the top 100 for the third year in a row. This year we even broke into the top 50 at number 42. This demonstrates world class levels of engagement with our team. We all believe that being a great place to work, only makes us more successful as a business.

"For the Board, it is very important for us to create an environment where people feel valued and supported. We recognise that this makes us both more attractive as an employer and underpins our continued commercial success."

Mansfield

"Best Companies has awarded Mansfield Building Society as a 2 Star accredited organisation for its outstanding commitment to workplace engagement. Following a confidential survey, Best Companies found colleagues at the Society to be highly engaged, which is especially pleasing given the challenge of operating throughout the Coronavirus pandemic.

"Mansfield’s people-first approach stretches right across the organisation and reflects how colleagues interact with each other, as well as with new and existing members. The Society is incredibly proud to receive recognition from Best Companies as a top employer."

Skipton Building Society

David Cutter, Chief Executive of Skipton Building Society, said: “For Skipton to be placed 7th in the 25 Best Big Companies to Work For is an amazing achievement for the Society. I am incredibly proud that we have been recognised for the second year in a row.

“After the challenges of 2020, it is an honour to be recognised against 24 of the UK’s largest, most respected and recognisable companies. This achievement really emphasises our ongoing commitment to developing our people and we will continue to look at new innovative and exciting ways to continue building our fantastic colleague engagement.”

Cumberland

Jill Johnston, Chief People Officer at The Cumberland, said, “Best Companies is recognised as the leading employee survey in the UK and has been developing its robust methodology for over 20 years.

“The results from the survey are exceptional - particularly when you consider that it took place with the backdrop of the pandemic. Many of our people have been coping with the challenges of working from home, and our branch colleagues, as key workers, have been out there amongst it all focusing very hard on delivering the high levels of customer service we’re known for."

Dudley

"We are one team at Dudley, and we think it’s important that we’re all working towards the same vision and values. Receiving a 1* accreditation from Best Companies, gives us the external recognition that we are doing something right.

"Being accredited as one of the top 30 Best Financial Services companies and making the top Midlands100 list, is something we are very proud of at Dudley. We will never be complacent with our achievements, and we will continue to recognise, reward and take care of our people so they can do the same for our members."
