Newcastle Building Society's innovative branch celebrates first year anniversary

When a local library was under threat of closure, Newcastle Building Society saw the perfect opportunity to innovatively extend its branch network – and worked with Stockton Borough Council to secure the ongoing provision of a valuable community resource.

Newcastle Building Society Chief Executive, Andrew Haigh commented:

“Returning the branch service to the town in partnership with a community based library provided an ideal opportunity.  Not just in terms of shared costs, but in the spirit of collaboration between the staff from the Library and the branch.

“One year on, the Library has experienced increased visitor numbers and book lending is up by 12 per cent.  From our side we’ve experienced higher than average new customer sign ups and the same for appointments, so it’s been a fruitful partnership for both sides.”
