They stick to bread-and-butter banking, raising retail deposits and using that money to make mortgage loans in their communities. They also share many of the same challenges facing mutual banks in the United States. They want to know whether mutuality still has a place in the global financial system, and they wonder how to communicate their philosophy to the next generation.

Another strong year for building societies at the Moneyfacts Awards 2018

Five hundred guests gathered at the iconic Pavilion at the Tower of London to celebrate the Moneyfacts Awards 2018. Building societies had another fruitful year, taking home six awards, including Best Remortgage Provider, Best First-Time Buyer Mortgage Provider, Regional Lending Provider of the Year, Best Online Mortgage Provider, Best Building Society Savings Provider and Best Building Society Mortgage Provider.
