Statement on Access

FCA statement

Banks, building societies, the Post Office and credit unions are working closely with the FCA, the Prudential Regulation Authority and HM Treasury to maintain branch access for essential services (such as counter services or supporting a bereavement), balancing the needs of their customers with the safety and welfare of staff.

The Government has been clear that the single most important action we can all take, in fighting coronavirus (Covid-19), is to stay at home in order to protect the NHS and save lives. We, therefore, urge customers to only visit branches where absolutely necessary.

Recommended precautions, such as social distancing, to minimise the spread of coronavirus have been introduced in branches and customers are asked to respect these.

Banks, building societies and credit unions are constantly keeping their websites up to date and we would encourage customers, wherever possible, to use online services for their banking and to find the latest information about their banking, including branch services, availability and opening hours. Bank customers may also be able to use the Post Office for essential banking services as an alternative to their branch. In addition, customers can continue to use ATMs or cash machines as normal for cash withdrawals and balance enquiries.‚Äč
