Concerns over job security at a five-year high as Brexit uncertainty persists, reveals Property Tracker survey

Released today, the BSA’s Property Tracker survey results reveal that:

  • Concerns over job security is at a five-year high
  • A third of people do not think that now is a good time to buy a property
  • Almost a third of the UK thinks that property prices will fall over the next year

BSA comments on the Authorised Push Payment (APP) Scams Voluntary Code publication

The APP Scams Steering Group has published a voluntary code of practice. It will come into effect on 28 May when members of the Steering Group will abide by the code, and encourage other financial service providers to do the same.

Strong Q4 boosts building society 2018 performance

Lending and savings figures published today show that building societies lent £68.9 billion in mortgage finance in 2018, up 7% on 2017.  Over the same period savings balances increased by £14.3 billion, well ahead of the £8.5 billion increase for the previous year.

Brexit slashes confidence in housing market

Released today, the BSA Property Tracker survey results reveal that:

  • Consumer confidence in the housing market has fallen considerably because of Brexit uncertainty - more than half of the population (53%) see Brexit as the biggest single risk to the market in 2019
     
  • Just 19% agree that ‘now is a good time to buy a property’ – down from almost a quarter (24%) in September. A third (33%) of the population disagree that “now is a good time to buy”.
