Finance Business Manager (part time)
London (Hybrid working policy)
Salary: Circa £60,000 (FTE) plus benefits package
Working pattern: 3 days per week for the BSA and 1 day per week supporting the Association of Mortgage Intermediaries (AMI)

About Us

The Building Societies Association (BSA) champions, represents and supports mutual lenders and deposit takers across the UK, specifically all 42 building societies and 8 of the largest and most progressive credit unions. It is highly respected for its representational advocacy to external bodies such as government departments and financial services regulators. As well as proactively campaigning on behalf of the sector, the BSA works closely with the sector to represent its interests through consultation papers and provides information and advisory services to its Members and Associates.

In addition to the BSA’s 50 Members, made up of building societies and credit unions, it has approximately 48 Associates, which are organisations with an interest in the sector. The BSA is an unincorporated not-for-profit organisation.

The Association of Mortgage Intermediaries (AMI) is the leading trade body for mortgage intermediary firms, dedicated to championing the value and importance of advice. It works closely with regulators, government and industry stakeholders, including trade bodies, lenders, providers and the media, to ensure the intermediary voice is heard and represented at every level.

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced and proactive Finance Business Manager to deliver high-quality financial management, reporting, planning and business partnering support across both the BSA and the Association of Mortgage Intermediaries (AMI). This is a part-time role, working three days per week for the BSA and one day per week for the  AMI.

This is a key role ensuring accurate, timely and insightful financial information is available to support effective decision-making, strategic planning and operational performance.

You will lead the production of management accounts, budgeting and forecasting processes, statutory reporting and audit preparation. You will act as a principal finance contact for departments across the organisation, support budget holders and senior managers, and help maintain strong financial controls, policies and procedures.

You will also provide line management and support to the Finance Manager at BSA, oversee transactional finance activity and contribute to continuous improvement across finance systems, reporting and processes.

About You
  • You have significant experience preparing management accounts, budgets, forecasts and year-end accounts.
  • You are confident analysing financial performance, investigating variances and presenting clear, useful commentary for senior decision-makers.
  • You enjoy working collaboratively with budget holders and colleagues, providing practical financial advice and insight to support organisational priorities.
  • You have strong attention to detail, a commitment to accuracy and the ability to manage competing priorities to meet deadlines.
  • You can explain financial information clearly to non-finance audiences and promote financial awareness across an organisation.
  • You have experience managing and developing staff and supporting effective team performance.
  • You bring advanced Excel skills, experience of financial systems and an interest in improving processes, controls and reporting.
Experience
  • You have substantial experience in financial reporting, management accounts, budgeting and forecasting.
  • You have experience preparing statutory accounts, audit files and supporting external audit processes.
  • You have strong financial analysis and business partnering experience, including advising budget holders and senior managers.
  • You understand VAT, financial compliance requirements and the importance of robust financial controls.
  • You are part or fully qualified as an accountant, such as ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent.
  • Experience within a trade association, membership organisation, professional body, charity or not-for-profit environment would be an advantage.
Why work for us
The generous benefits package includes 26 days annual leave, a group personal pension scheme, Life Assurance and PHI.

The starting salary will depend on the successful candidate’s experience.

The BSA is committed to supporting a positive work-life balance for its employees and operates a hybrid working policy, enabling its staff to work from home for up to 50% of the time.

As an equal opportunities employer, the BSA is committed to offering a diverse, inclusive and supportive workplace.

Staff communication and training are priorities for the organisation, and the BSA is proud to be a signatory to the Living Wage Foundation, the Women in Finance Charter and the Good Business Charter.
