Join the BSA and Real Worth for the launch of our Social Value Toolkit for Building Society Branches.

This practical toolkit has been designed specifically for building societies and credit unions to help them maximise and measure the social value generated by their branch network. It will be particularly useful for members at an earlier stage in their social value journey.

This session is open to all BSA members and will be of interest to CEOs, CSR mangers, branch managers or anyone interested generating more social value from their branch network.

James McGowan, Principal Consultant at Real Worth will guide members through the report, highlighting the key takeaways and quick wins for building societies with an opportunity to ask James any questions.

The creation of this toolkit follows the publication of the Social Value of Branches Report in July 2026 that demonstrated the significant social value generated by the building society branch network. The research used a combination of interviews, site visits, customer surveys and social value modelling across a sample of 44 branches across eight building societies.

The study explored how branches contribute not only to financial access, but also to fraud prevention, emotional wellbeing, learning, community outreach and high street vitality. The analysis found that building society branches generate an estimated £7.6 billion in annual social value, equivalent to around £827 per in-person customer and £6.5 million per branch on average.
