Media & Campaigns Manager
London (Hybrid working policy)
Salary Range: £60,000-£75,000 plus benefits package

About Us

The Building Societies Association (BSA) champions, represents and supports mutual lenders and deposit takers across the UK, specifically all 42 building societies and a number of larger credit unions.  It is highly respected for its representational advocacy to external bodies such as government departments and financial services regulators.  As well as proactively campaigning on behalf of the sector, the BSA works closely with the sector to represent its interests through consultation papers and provides information and advisory services to its Members and Associates.

In addition to the BSA’s 49 Members (building societies and credit unions) it has approximately 48 Associates (organisations which have an interest in the sector).  The BSA is an unincorporated not-for-profit organisation.

The BSA currently has 25 staff in the areas of policy/representational lobbying, economics and research, external affairs, member communications, commercial activities and corporate services.

About the Role

We are looking for a proactive and creative Media & Campaigns Manager to lead high-quality media relations and campaigns for the BSA and the wider building society sector. This role is central to raising the profile of building societies, supporting integrated campaigns and delivering impactful communications that align with our strategic priorities.

Reporting to the Head of External Affairs, you will lead day-to-day media activity, develop compelling campaigns, create engaging content and work closely with senior colleagues, members and external partners. You will also help ensure our communications activity is joined up across media, digital, policy and events.

About You

• You have strong media relations experience and a track record of generating coverage, managing press enquiries and building effective relationships with journalists.
• You are an excellent writer, able to produce clear, concise and engaging content for a range of audiences and channels.
• You bring creativity and sound judgement to campaigns, content and communications planning.
• You are confident working at pace, managing multiple priorities and handling sensitive issues professionally.
• You have strong social media and digital content skills, including an understanding of performance monitoring and analytics.
• You build strong relationships with colleagues, members and external stakeholders and enjoy working collaboratively.
• You understand communications in a political, regulatory, financial services or membership body environment.

Experience

• You have significant experience in a media, press office, communications or campaigns role.
• You have managed media enquiries, pitched stories, drafted external communications materials and advised senior stakeholders.
• You have experience developing digital content and supporting organisational social media channels.
• Experience in financial services, a regulated environment, trade association or membership organisation would be an advantage.
• Professional qualifications such as CIPR, or equivalent experience, would be welcomed.

Why work for us

The generous benefits package includes 26 days annual leave, a group personal pension scheme, Life Assurance and PHI.

The starting salary will depend on the successful candidate’s experience.

The BSA is committed to supporting a positive work-life balance for its employees and operates a hybrid working policy, enabling its staff to work from home for up to 50% of the time.  This role can also be made available on a part-time basis for the right candidate depending on their skills and experience.

As an equal opportunities employer, the BSA is committed to offering a diverse, inclusive and supportive workplace.

Staff communication and training are priorities for the organisation, and the BSA is proud to be a signatory to the Living Wage Foundation, the Women in Finance Charter and the Good Business Charter.

You’ll be part of a dynamic team influencing policy at the highest level, helping create a favourable environment for our members and the wider mutual sector.
