This webinar will cover a summary of the Employment Rights Bill, with a focus on the proposed changes that will affect Building Societies in particular, plus anything that arises out of the budget on 30th October.

10:05 - 10:50    A summary of the Employment Rights Bill - What does it mean for our sector?

To include the introduction of day one employment rights, changes to zero hours contracts, strengthened sick leave, parental and other leave rights, collective redundancy, a ban on fire and rehire and changes to flexible working.

This session will cover the meaning of all reasonable steps and definition of harassment, implications for policies and risk assessments, and “new” obligation to prevent harassment of employees by third parties.

11:45 - 12:15   How do the HR related changes in the Budget impact on our Sector?

Catherine Wilson, Partner - Employment Law, Constantine Law
Catherine is an employment law expert. She has over 35 years experience working for employers across several public and private sector organisations. Following a spell working in-house, Catherine has worked with the Building Societies Association for 30 years .
 
Catherine is  a partner with specialist law firm Constantine Law. Prior to joining Constantine Law, she headed up the regional and national employment teams for several large national law firms.
 
Catherine has particular expertise in discrimination and whistleblowing cases but also delivers advice on corporate restructuring transfer of undertaking redundancies and reorganisations.
 
Catherine is a regular commentary on employment law matters for several years including The Financial Times, the BBC, People Management and Lexus Nexus.  She is a keen advocate of employment training and regularly delivers in house and on line webinars for  clients and professional groups.

James Buckley, Solicitor - Employment law and Workforce ESG, PwC
James provides focused and pragmatic advice to clients on a range of contentious and non-contentious employment matters. He has a particular focus on sustainability and the ‘S’ of ESG, advising on workforce reporting and strategy. He regularly works alongside PwC colleagues on pay governance, worker status and diversity projects.

He has conducted a number of secondments which means that he has experience of the particular demands of in-house legal and HR practitioner roles and of managing internal stakeholders, ensuring that his advice suits the client's commercial needs.

John Harding, Partner and Global Capability Lead, Employment Tax and Payroll, PwC
John leads our UK Employment practice at PwC and is global capability leader for Employment Tax & Payroll.  John has over 30 years advising clients on how to manage their employment costs as well as associated employment tax and employment risk and reward issues.

John's background in Employment Taxes means that he is familiar with HMRC's approach to employment matters and his wide ranging experience across a number of industries means that he is able to provide a range of pragmatic and practical solutions for business.

John regularly meets with HMRC, the Department for Business and other departments to share his insights.
