Role in local communities

 

All building societies have their headquarters outside the city of London, and are deeply involved in the regional economies where they are based.

The important role that building societies play in their local economies in terms of employment, investment and community involvement was examined in a recent report, Reinvigorating Communities.

Employment within the mutual sector is more evenly spread across the country than is the case in the wider financial services sector, as shown in the chart below.  (ONS 2017)
