Since 2015 the BSA has managed a workstream dedicated to analysing the trends around mortgage lending to older consumers. Finance is clearly a crucial part of this equation so we welcome the Select Committee’s inquiry into the adequacy of housing for older people. Our response argues that government should seek to increase the supply of new general needs housing designed with older people in mind, rather than focusing on solely retirement housing and extra care schemes.
